The name Adrada is a subject that is not agreed easily upon except that Adrada is not of Spanish origin. One theory that is "beleived by some," is that Adrada was the name of a Berber tribe (Amazigh) from North Africa. I tend to beleive this to be likely especially after reading this study on Spanish DNA

as well as this scientific study on Spanish and North African people.

And one can view the maps of Spain under Muslim rule between the years of 711 AD when the Muslims entered Spain and 781 years later when Spanish christians regained Spain in 1492 AD.

For over 300 years of the 781 years of Muslim Spain. My family, both the Madrid's and Camaño's and their families were a part of Muslim Spain below the Ebro and Duero River systems where the conquering Muslims intermarried with the indigineuos Christian and Jewish populations, with shifts in religeous allegiance between Judaism, Christianity and Islam, all combined to produce a thorough cultural mix as stated in Raymond Carr's book "Spain - A History."

Then theres also my families names which in a way seem like "possible hints" from our ancestors identifying who we are or maybe who we were.

My Great Great Grandfathers Sabas name. Sabas as girls name is of Greek and Arabic origin and means Sheba like the biblical referance the "the Queen of Sheba" or the Queen of Saba. But my Great Great Grandfather was a male. Sabas as a boys name is a Hebrew name which means conversion.

In Spanish "converso" refers to Jews or Muslims or the descendants of Jews or Muslims who converted to Catholicism in Spain and Portugal, particularly during the 14th and 15th centuries.

And my Great Grandfathers name Mariano, (Mariano and Felix are names that have been used a lot by the Camaño familia). If you change the "i" in Mariano to an "r." In Spanish it would be Marrano, a meaning for new Christians of Jewish origin. The term marrano may also refer to Crypto-Jews, i.e. those who secretly continued to practice Judaism.

And my Grandfather Joaquins name comes from the Hebrew name Joachim.

And my Great Uncle Felix's name. Felix means happy, lucky or blessed and it is also found here Arabia Felix, an early name for modern day Yemen.

What does all this mean? Well it proves that in my families DNA makeup, we are highly likely to be decendants of all three of Spains cultural ethnic mix of Christians, Jews and Muslims.

This website is dedicated to all of the past and present Caamaño / Camaño / Camanio familia de La Adrada, who live in España, America and anywhere else our familia has moved to. But most importantly to my Grandfather Joaquin, my Great Grandfather Mariano and my Great Great Grandfather Sabas Camaño.

It was Sabas who taught Mariano to be a self sufficient farmer and it was Mariano whose dream was to come to America and buy some good fertil California land, planting a farm and giving their descendants a better life.

Los Camaño's were self suffient farmers in La Adrada, Avila (province), España. For generations it was their livelyhood to be farmers.

Mariano Camaño achieved his dream after relocating his family to Hawaii. Mariano sold 1/2 of his farm for traveling money to America and gave his oldest son Indalecio, who was already married and with a family, the other 1/2 to work and sell at a later date and eventually meet up with the Camaño familia in California. Indalecio never moved to America and unfortunately Marianos 2nd oldest son Felix found it hard to keep the dream alive and sold the farm sometime after Marianos death.

Now, I, am replanting that dream with De La Adrada Vineyard.
